Irish Baby Blessing
To welcome a new baby
May you always walk in sunshine.
May you never want for more.
May Irish angels rest their wings
beside your nursery door.
And for the proud parents:
May God grant you
a wee bit of heaven
to cradle in your arms -
a sweet bonny baby
to hold close to your heart
A newborn babe
brings light to the house
warmth to the hearth
and joy to the soul
for wealth is family
family is wealth.
Old Irish proverb
Irish Christening Blessing
Dearest Father in Heaven,
Bless this child and bless this day
Of new beginnings.
Smile upon this child
And surround this child, Lord,
With the soft mantle of your love.
Teach this child to follow in your footsteps,
And to live life in the ways of
Love, faith, hope and charity.
“In the name of God and of generations before and after us, we welcome you, dear child, to the mystical union of souls on earth. We have awaited you. We rejoice that you are here. We ask God to bless you and watch over you, now and forever.
“Blessed is the birth of a human being, coming into the experience of new life,
“Blessed are the parents who give the world a child, for they are Co-Creators with God.
“Blessed are all who would teach the child to be honest in words, responsible in deeds, and honoring all life. And, feeling loved, he sees himself as love and so he extends that love.
“This is the supreme goal of parents and society–to align with the Divine Mind to raise a child of God, aware of himself as a spiritual being, independent of all belief in lack and limitation.
“Awaken the vision in all of us to take hold of the truth for this one, to share our wisdom with him and all children in our midst. All is already perfect and complete for this to be and for this little one to know the peace of God.”
